Review of Small Town Missouri: Legends, Lore, and Attractions in the Show Me State a new book by Caitlin Yager

As someone who grew up in small town Missouri, I still learned some things about towns I have visited or driven through while traveling in Missouri.  This book is a great introduction to so many of our Missouri towns.  I really liked the format the author used to provide history, attractions, special events and fun facts about each town.  Some of my favorite towns to learn about or the surrounding area was Jamesport as I did not know we had an actual Amish community in Missouri.  I was aware of the Mennonite community around Versailles, Missouri but not the Amish.  While I know that Walt Disney was from Missouri I did not know the name of his hometown-Marceline. The country knows about the springs in Arkansas but I learned about springs we have in Missouri like in Excelsior Springs.  Marthasville and Cuba were towns I used to travel through on family vacations, so seeing them in this book was sort of like going home.

If anyone is looking for places to visit in Missouri here is a great book to check out small towns that have a variety of adventures.  Missouri has water, nature, theater, food, history, and legends that can entertain most everyone.  This is also a way to see all types of topography since Missouri has creeks, rivers, lakes, mountains, prairies, and forests.  It was also cool to learn about the industries that Missouri had even if they are no longer part of Missouri’s economy.  I hope to see more books by this author on more towns.
