Review of Queer film THROUPLE

THROUPLE is an unusual movie. I rarely find a movie that I enjoy with a main character who I struggle to like. But I am also all about the character arc, and I am very glad I hung around until the end.

THROUPLE is the story of Michael (played by Michael Doshier), a lonely gay man who is attempting to navigate the world of dating while trying to launch a career as a singer/songwriter  while also maintaining his only real relationship of the previous ten years with his platonic best friend Tristan (played by Tristan Carter-Jones)

.  Things get even more complicated when he hooks up with a married couple, which makes him reconsider almost everything he knows about love.

The film is messy in the best way possible; it shows all the character’s strengths and weaknesses.  The relationships are complicated, and as we watch, all the players learn and grow.  I think the best I liked about the movie was that, unlike a lot of romantic movies, the people in THROUPLE  communicate honestly (though some take longer than others)  and express their needs and desires.  It was very refreshing.  That, plus the fact that we get to see Michael really grow both as a musician and person, makes this one a must check out.

I also have to give special shout outs to the soundtrack and Jess Gabor, who plays Abbey, Tristan’s girlfriend; she was amazing.

Throuple will be available to stream on all major platforms including Amazon, iTunes, InDemand, Google, and Dekkoo beginning June 6.
