The Emotionally Charged Colombian Film Explores the Tangled Web of Trauma, Desire, and Reconciliation
Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the North American TVOD release of Salt Water, the haunting and evocative new LGBTQ drama from Colombian filmmaker Steven Morales Pineda. The film will be available to rent or own on major digital platforms beginning June 24.
Written, directed, and co-produced by Pineda, Salt Water is a fearless and intimate examination of memory, identity, and the lasting impact of emotional trauma. Set along the strikingly beautiful Colombian coast, the story follows thirty-three-year-old Jacobo (Luis Mario Jiménez) as he reconnects with José Luis, a fifty-year-old Catholic priest who sexually abused him as a child—and who is now leaving the clergy following new accusations.
For Jacobo, José Luis is the source of a deep, enduring fracture in his soul. His return stirs a complex storm of emotions—resentment, longing, aversion, and an unsettling attraction. As the two navigate their fraught reunion, the ever-present sea mirrors the turbulent emotional undercurrents between them, serving both as a symbol of torment and the potential for healing.
Also starring Ferraro Yerena as Erasmo and Braian V. Aburaad as Brain, Salt Water bravely unpacks the silences surrounding abuse and the messy, often contradictory nature of human connection. With tenderness and unflinching honesty, Pineda guides the viewer through the murky waters of forgiveness, desire, and emotional survival.
