Rebecca James is a m/m author who describes her muse as strong men exhibiting soft emotions such as caring and concern. She took some time from her prolific writing schedule to chat with us about herself and her new project.
Q) Can you give us the lowdown on your latest book Out of Nowhere?
Sure! It’s book four of my Balls and Brawn Security series. Each book features a new couple and can be read separately, but I recommend you read them in order for maximum enjoyment. In this book, Dex, the slightly nerdy tech guy, gets partnered with his long-time crush, mysterious, sexy team member Seo-jun.
Q) What do you hope readers will take away from your books?
I like to give my readers the thrill of a budding attraction, the quickening pulse of a new romance, and the heat of a first-time or rekindled passion.
Q) What attracted you to write in the MM genre?
I’d never heard of “MM” until I started writing fanfiction around 2013-14. I then realized writing MM was the perfect way for me to combine my passion for writing with my long-time fascination with men in love with men.
Q) What is the most challenging part about self-publishing?
Once I got past the difficulty of learning to self publish, the hardest part has been promotion. I’ve never been good at “tooting my own horn,” so to speak.
Q) Do you ever consult with other writers or editors for advice?
I talk to other MM authors all the time. It’s a great community full of helpful people. I belong to a few groups where we can ask one another for advice.
Q) What is your next project you are working on?
I am currently working on both book 5 of my Balls and Brawn series, and book 4 of my YA Boys’ Love series, which is about Thai actors in the boys’ love industry falling for each other.

Q) When the zombies take over the world where will you be?
I will be hiding in a cave somewhere with my books, of course!
Q ) What is your favorite Fandom?
I wrote fanfiction in the Merlin fandom (Merthur ship) and the Harry Potter fandom (Drarry ship). My fanfiction is still on AO3 under the name SPowell. I also have some old Starsky and Hutch fanfiction there. (If you read any of it, please remember I was a baby writer when I wrote it!)
Q) What piece of art, be it in the form of music, a book, a film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?
Oh, that’s easy. Lego from LYKN performing Dhoom Dhoom. It’s a MUST SEE.
Q) Give one fact that most people would not believe about you?
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with the book and the film Gone with the Wind. By the time I was twelve, I’d read it twice and watched it 33 times. (It’s, like, four hours long!) Believe it? Well, how about the fact that I once owned 19 cats at one time? It was a population explosion with a long story attached. I am now down to a manageable three.
