Another in our continuing spotlight on LGBTQ+ creators. Today we showcase Franco De Rocco. He is a is a renowned writer and painter who has captivated an international audience with his adeptness at weaving intricate and engaging narratives.
Q) You’re best known for your contemporary gay romance series, Business Trip Chronicles, but what inspired you to write Rise of the Queer Vampires?
Rise of the Queer Vampires was my debut novel—a daring fusion of supernatural storytelling and erotic themes. I wrote it to challenge conventions, question societal norms, and explore deeply personal themes. The process helped me find my voice as an author and provided invaluable lessons about the publishing world.
This novel is ideal for readers who enjoy gay erotica. It tells the story of Antonio de Luca, a young Italian man wrestling with his sexual identity while bound by the strict expectations of his Catholic upbringing. His transformation into a vampire is a powerful metaphor for his journey of self-discovery and liberation.
Q) What are the key advantages and challenges you’ve observed in serialized publishing versus traditional novel publishing?
Serialized publishing has been a gratifying experience. One of its biggest advantages is sharing my stories with readers much faster than traditional publishing allows. This immediacy fosters a stronger, more direct connection with my audience. Another key advantage is affordability—each installment is priced inexpensively, making the entire series more cost-effective than purchasing a full-book compilation. It’s a win-win: readers stay engaged, while I enjoy greater creative flexibility to shape the story as it unfolds.
That said, traditional publishing offers distinct rewards. Few experiences are as gratifying as holding a finished book—a tangible testament to the time and effort poured into its creation. It’s an achievement that’s hard to put into words.
Q) What is your ultimate dream as an author?
As an author, my greatest aspiration is to forge a deep, meaningful connection with readers who truly resonate with my work. I dream of creating stories that entertain and offer a welcome escape. Building a loyal audience is vital to this journey, enabling me to continue sharing stories that inspire, captivate, and leave a lasting impact.
Q) How do You handle negative reviews?
I start by carefully reading the review to understand the reviewer’s perspective and pinpoint any constructive feedback that could enhance my work. Writing is subjective, and individual tastes vary widely, so I see negative reviews as an inevitable part of an author’s journey.
Q) What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
My advice is to share your work openly and welcome constructive criticism. Feedback is invaluable for refining your skills and growing as a writer. Additionally, make reading a priority—immersing yourself in diverse narratives can spark inspiration and shape your unique voice. Above all, keep writing. With persistence and dedication, your craft will continue to evolve and flourish.
Q) What project are you working on next?
I’m excited to share details about my next project, which I’ve been developing for several months. It’s a Christmas story titled A Sleigh Ride to Remember, featuring Nick Jr., the son of Santa Claus. This captivating and heartfelt story seamlessly combines themes of gay romance and erotica, offering readers a compelling and enjoyable experience. It provides a unique take on the holiday spirit that many will enjoy!

Q) What’s your favorite fandom?
The world of cinema. I’m an avid moviegoer and can’t get enough of the big-screen experience.
Q) What piece of art, be it in music, a book, a film, or a picture, do you think people must experience before they die?

Q) Give one fact that most people would not believe about you.
