So, before I got a chance to check out Mx. High from Spartan I had not heard of Loop Sessions. I learned that Loop Sessions is an international beat making community and non-competitive sample flip challenge. That was Founded in 2016 by ArtBeat Montreal and The Loop Pilots. The basic premises is that they provide some basic samples of music that everyone in the challenge is encouraged to adapt and improvise with to create something new. This seems a great way to inspire and see the different ways that creators can use the same basic language as well as a meeting point for future collaborations. A great example of this is Mx. High by Spartan Jet-Plex. The project comes in two forms a mix tape and a digital vision of the album that accompanied by scenes from the movie Suspiria, creating a visual version of the loop session concept. The music was constructed over previous years, and it can be easily interpreted as a soundtrack to the events that happened in one person’s life during that time. The overall feel of the project is slightly discordant but in a way that makes you pay attention to the music and the feelings that they evoke. This piece is very emotional and when I was listening to it while I was doing something else I would find myself stopping just to appreciate the music.
I highly suggest that you stop what you are doing and run over to Bandcamp to pick it up.
