Jack Tracy Interview

Jack Tracy is very busy at the moment with the release of his brand new Dekkoo Danny will Die Alone an new original program which he wrote, directed and stars but found some time to chat about his new project.

Q)  What inspired you to create Danny Will Die Alone? 

Entering back into the dating pool a few years ago I saw how much the landscape had changed. Finding people who are actually serious about dating became much more difficult and the results much more peculiar. I figured I wasnt the only one going through this so I thought it would make a relatable show. 

Q) You previously worked on the feature length film, Snowflake.  What are the differences in your approach when doing serialized content?

Prior to that I did three seasons of my drama History so I had plenty of experience. Danny was different because the first episodes were designed as self contained snippets of single dates. In season two, we will weave it all together with a throughline. 

 Q) At one point, we see Danny getting ready to sing at a local bar. I was surprised that we did not get any footage of Danny singing, since you have a successful performing career.  Is that maybe something we can look forward to in season 2?

That actually didnt make it. But i have a brand new album coming out at the same time and many of those tracks will be featured in season 2. 

Q) Which films and television shows have shaped how you approach your projects? 

Danny has the quippiness of 30 Rock and Veep with the outrageousness of Always Sunny and Curb with the 4th wall breaking of Fleabag. Then sprinkle the explicit sex of Sex and the City. 

Q) What other indie LGBTQ2+ creators do think people should be checking out?

I actually dont pay attention. I’m solely focused on my work and dont want to fall into the trap of comparing myself to others, so I intentionally wear blinders. 

Q)  Danny Will Die Alone has already been greenlit for a second season. What can we expect from the next episodes?

The biggest changes are longer episodes with a continuing storyline featuring Danny’s hookup buddy Matty, played by Jordan Bell. Also thanks to Dekkoo, we have a budget which helped elevate our production value. It looks great.

Q) When the zombies take over the world, where will you be?

Dead. Im apparently very tasty. 

Q ) What is your favorite Fandom?

Star Trek. Im a huge Trekkie. 

Q) What piece of art, be it in the form of music, a book, a film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?

Danny Will Die Alone. 😛

Q) Give one fact that most people would not believe about you?

Im an introvert who has no social life and prefers to stay home with my dog.  Everyone thinks Im an extrovert because Im charismatic and a good public speaker, but Im happiest in a hot bath reading a book.
