In the installment of Creator showcase we talk with director Marco De Luca . Marco Marco’s passion lies in thrillers, horror, and queer cinema. His experience across multiple formats and genres has enabled him to hone his craft and you’ll often find that his work explores the darker sides of human nature.  His latest project is Peckham mix which will be streaming on Dekkoo starting June 15.

Q)     How did you come up with the idea for Peckham Mix?

M: I live very close to Peckham and so walking around the neighborhood on a Sunday, I started noticing a group of friends chatting in the streets and they looked and behaved so differently from each other. It gave me the idea for the unlikeliest of flat shares.

Q)    Is not judging people by initial impressions a theme you wanted to explore in Peckham Mix?

M: I would hope viewers might take away the message that purpose comes in many different shapes and forms, and that taking the time to look beneath the surface of people can reveal unexpected blessings and challenge our belief systems.

Q)    Many of your projects have been quite serious.  Was it an adjustment working on something a little more quirky?

M: Peckham Mix is so different from anything I have done before. I usually make thrillers/horrors or dramas. Making a comedy was so refreshing and fun, I loved it!

Q)    You were filming on location, which can a challenge.  Did you encounter any problems with the set or weather?

M: London is known as a rainy city but when we were shooting in December it started snowing like we were in Sweden. It just wouldn’t stop! I would say all the exterior scenes were quite tough to manage but still incredibly fun.

Q)    What movies have influenced you as a director?

M: So many films have inspired me. To name a few: Rope and Vertigo by Hitchcock but also Pride by Matthew Warchus and Moonlight by Berry Jenkins.

Q)    What are you are working on next?

M: I’m currently in post production with an Italian  thriller I have written and directed.

Q)    Where can people go to learn more about you and your projects?

M: If People want to know more about my projects they should visit my Instagram: marcodeluca.film

And my Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/marcodeluca

Final four questions that we ask everybody:

Q)  When the zombies take over the world, where will you be?

M: At the movies watching a 1940s Noir film.

Q)  What is your favorite fandom?

M: Anything to do with Pandas..I love them.

Q)   What piece of art, be it in the form of music, a book, a film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?

M; Everybody should read “The Bell Jar” by Silvia Plath.

Q)  Give one fact that most people would not believe about you.

M: I can eat 10 donuts in 2 minutes.
